Driftwood Village, Sugar Beach

Nothing beats a day spent at the beach especially during hot summer days. Warm breeze and cool waves make a great weekend trip. So we decided to go to Sugar Beach in Sipalay, Negros Occidental.

Drive away to Sipalay , just 3-4 hours away from Bacolod City. When you reach the Sipalay Public Market, you’ll see Driftwood Restaurant, an Italian Restaurant managed by the same owner of Driftwood Village. From here, you take a 15-minute boat ride going to Sugar Beach. Trips from Sipalay to Sugar Beach start from 9am.You can save if you are traveling in groups because the 350Php boat ride will be divided among boat passengers.

There are a lot of resorts in the island (Sulu Sunset Resort, Langub Beach Resort, Big Bam Boo, Takatuka Lodge and Dive Resort), but we stayed in Driftwood Village. The place is well-maintained since it started its operations 10 years ago and the staff are very accommodating. It’s a popular choice for foreigners and locals because the place isn’t as commercialized as other popular beaches in the country.

The Place is so cozy and it gives a homey beach vibe. You can enjoy island-hopping in Danjugan Island or nearby islands/caves. You can also go snorkeling, kayaking or fishing (gears are available for rental). If you’re a little sporty, you can play beach volleyball or billiards. There is a strong mobile signal and WiFi connection so you can update your blog, answer emails or post on social media. Or you can completely laze around in the island, read a book while laying in a hammock, catch sunsets while sipping cocktails and forget about the urban life.

Stay in one of their cottages, overnight rates start at 700. No two cottages are alike, so this gives us more reasons to come back to this place. They also have laundry services for a minimal fee. Dine in their restaurant which serves Filipino and International cuisine. We suggest you try their Seafood dishes.
